THE AMERICAN BRITTANY

The American Brittany is the smallest of the Pointing breeds. They work in the same manner as a pointer. They point and hold their game. They retrieve both on land and in water. Brittanys are used primarily on upland game in the United States, but are used on both fur and feather in France.

Many of the country’s top Brittanys have been house pets as well as field winners and exceptional hunting dogs. The Brittany is a high energy dog who is an all-around dog in Field, Show & Companionship. Brittanys do need a lot of exercise to keep them happy & healthy.

The Brittany is compact, medium size, between 30 to 40 pounds, and from 17” to 21” inches at the shoulder. They are either liver & white or orange & white in color. They are a leggy dog that can cover ground with agility.

They have a friendly disposition and are willing to please his/her master. Training is more easy than some of the other pointing breeds.

Originally called the Brittany Spaniel, it is now referred to as the Brittany, because its hunting style more closely resembles that of pointing breeds.
September 1, 1982 its official name was changed to Brittany
.
